“My research is focused on the diet-disease interaction from a nutrigenomic approach. Currently, I work in the group of Prof. F. Perez Jimenez. This group is part of the CIBER Obesity and Nutrition consortium in Spain, researching the pathophysiology of obesity. We study the effects of dietary components on the molecular mechanisms involved in obesity and insulin resistance, as well as their effects on cardiovascular disease risk. Our main focus is on patients with metabolic syndrome, a multi-component disorder characterized by abdominal obesity, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and impaired insulin sensitivity, and by a pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic state. This condition is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk and type 2 diabetes mellitus, itself a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

We aim to identify new diet-genome interactions and thus new molecular pathways that we can target with new therapeutic strategies to minimise the negative effects of diet on metabolic health.”
