My research focuses on the role of a special class of phospholipids called plasmalogen ether lipids in energy metabolism. My interest in plasmalogen ether lipids (Plasmalogens) is based on the fact that their levels are reduced in obese and diabetic mice, as well as in obese humans. Thus, we hypothesis that plasmalogen depletion is associated with the development of obesity and/or type 2 diabetes.

Improving our understanding of how the plasmalogen synthetic pathway is regulated and the impact that these molecules have on global metabolism, will hopefully lead to new treatment strategies for illnesses such as obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.
