Research in the Rahmouni laboratory focuses on the central neural mechanisms that controls metabolism and cardiovascular function. My lab uses multidisciplinary approaches including basic research tools, genetic models and sophisticated physiological techniques that allow us to address physiological questions at the molecular level. Our research is aimed at the identification of the molecular and neuroanatomical pathways involved in the regulation of metabolic, autonomic and cardiovascular functions. We also investigate the dysregulation of these pathways in disease condition such as obesity and hypertension. We were successful in dissecting the molecular mechanisms that account for the metabolic and cardiovascular disorders associated with Bardet-Biedl syndrome, a human obesity syndrome.
