Dr Sue-Anne Toh received her medical degree from the University of Cambridge, UK; and did her post-graduate training at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania,Philadelphia,USA. Dr Toh is an endocrinologist and diabetologist with particular expertise in diabetes mellitus, lipid disorders and obesity. She is an appointed member of the Singapore Ministry of Health’s Lipid Clinical Practice Guidelines Workgroup, and committee member of the Endocrine and Metabolic Society of Singapore. She is a recipient of several American Heart Association Awards andSingapore’s Clinician Scientist Award. She has published in high impact journals, authored several book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for numerous journals related to diabetes, lipid metabolism and obesity.

 

Her translational research projects funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council are directed towards functional characterization of pathways involved in type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular complications. The research program leverages on ethnic differences in the predisposition for cardio metabolic disease, and use of primary human cell lines coupled with human physiology studies. The aim is to bridge the gap between human genetic/ epidemiologic association signals and functional mechanism, with the overall goal of developing improved approaches to managing cardio-metabolic disease.
